I have spent the last couple days with our team on the ground in Haiti overseeing the distribution of the food, water, medicine, and supplies we have sent. We went to our warehouse and confirmed that these supplies had arrived and are being distributed to the people who need them the most. We also spent an entire day at the airport to make sure all the shipments we airlifted had also arrived and were distributed.
The devastation is unbelievable. Yesterday I saw a hospital that had caved in during the earthquake and killed 400 people. 300 of those were children. Witnesses told me that for days, they could hear their cries and could do nothing about it. It made me thankful that we are helping to provide for 400 newly orphaned children.
Today, I was invited to a meeting with the Haitian President’s Chief of Staff, some of his Cabinet members and other high- ranking officials. There were also high- level officials from the Dominican Republic. The purpose of the meeting was to determine how best to begin rebuilding Haiti.
In God’s perfect timing, just yesterday an entire World Help container arrived with over $100,000 worth of tools, wheelbarrows, shovels, picks, sledge hammers, pick hammers, glove, boots, goggles, etc. These tools are being distributed today to the Haitian people so they can begin to dig out from the rubble.
One of the biggest needs right now is tents. The fear is that once it starts raining, the diseases will begin to spread. Our partners have been able to deliver 5,000 tents to provide families with shelter. But we need to send an entire container of tents to help more people. Please pray with me that we can meet this great need.
I can see God moving. In the midst of the devastation, help is coming. In the midst of despair, the Haitian people are hopeful. In the midst of chaos, God is ordering our steps and positioning us to make a difference.
Please pray for Haiti.
