I just returned from Haiti last week. I came back to a nation still digging their way out from the devastation. Every Haitian bears the scars of the earthquake. Many walk the streets on crutches, missing a leg. Bandages, casts, and slings are as common as the collapsed houses.
All have suffered emotionally. Hundreds of thousands are overwhelmed with grief. They have no advocates, counselors, or assistance. An entire city suffers from Post Traumatic Stress.
The voices of Haiti are still crying out.
This week World Help delivered another 40-foot container loaded with supplies. It drove straight into Port-au-Prince with hundreds of large family tents, cots, wheelbarrows, shovels, and other tools. Our team personally delivered these right into the hands of our partners, needy families, and orphaned children. So far we have shipped or airlifted more than 20 containers and 14 more waiting to go out. All valued at more than five million dollars.
I took part in a meeting that brought together many of the high-level government officials of both Haiti and the Dominican Republic. These men and women made it clear that they were dedicated to doing everything they
could and that World Help would be a vital part of giving help and restoring hope.
We visited the hundreds of orphans that we are supporting in Haiti to ensure they are being cared for and identified hundreds of more orphans that need support.
There are now hundreds of organizations working in Haiti, but food and water has still not reached many of those who are suffering. I watched as thousands lined up for hours with only a hope of receiving food. These same Haitians are living in cramped tent cities that are awash in disease, malnutrition, and thirst.
To help feed families, World Help is purchasing a container of food in Puerto Rico. There are 18,000 self-heating family sized-meals in this container. So we can feed a family for an entire week for only $10.
Through a contact that I met this week with the United Nations World Food Program, they have agreed to ship this container for free. This means that 100 percent of donations will go directly to putting food into the hands of a needy Haitian.
But we need the funds to purchase this container. I am asking you to help me feed a family.
