Cristo para Cuba

Cristo para Cuba (Christ for Cuba).  I actually saw this on a bumper sticker on an antique car in Havana.

It is God’s time in Cuba and something incredible is about to happen.

There are still Cubans who, believe it or not, don’t know who Jesus Christ is. I’m not exaggerating. When asked, some Cubans will actually reply that they have never heard of Jesus Christ and that the only Jesus (“Hey-soos”) they know lives in their village.

Think about it for a moment. It’s heartbreaking to know people who live as close as 90 miles from America don’t know there is a God who loves them and sent His Son to die for them.

But I have spent the last week in Cuba with over 700 church planters and pastors who are dedicated to changing that.  They gathered together in one place for church planting training.  For Cuba this was a once in a lifetime event! They came from all over Cuba, enduring very hard travels. Very few had cars or the money for the gas if they did have one. I spoke with one pastor who rode in the back of a truck with animals for over 12 hours. Some walked for miles until they were able to ride not in a bus, but on top of a bus.

But their passion for church planting is so great that nothing could prevent them from an opportunity to be trained, equipped, and encouraged. Every session was filled with praise and worship. They cast a vision to plant 1,000 churches in Cuba in the next 5 years. We have identified 200 church planters who will each plant 1 church this year. We personally spent time with 45 of these planters.  They shared their stories with us and we prayed with them.

Imagine it, these churches will spread all over Cuba!  In just a few years thousands and thousands of Cuban will know Christ and be part of a growing church.  Children who are taught to know only one great leader will finally know the Great Creator.

But these planters need support.  They need our help.  And this is a special moment in history that we must act. I don’t think that is too much to ask to change a nation.  For the price that the average person spends on Starbucks or going to the movies each month you can plant a church in Cuba.

Cuba is ready.

Absolutely...there is a passion in the Christian community on the island that is unheard of anywhere else. Pastors, youth leaders, and others are dedicated to serving their God, regardless of the cost.
