Dorothy, a 10-year-old girl from Uganda, was severely burned when she spilled kerosene on herself while lighting a lamp and was engulfed in flames. She suffered third-degree burns over 20-30 percent of her body including her face, chest, arms, and legs. Dorothy was immediately taken to the hospital where she spent several months and underwent two major surgeries.
Bola, a 12-year-old boy from India and a former member of our Children of the World choir, underwent emergency brain surgery. Bola experienced a high fever and fluid build-up on his brain. He was rushed to the hospital and surgery successfully removed the fluid. However, the rehabilitation process took a while as Bola had to relearn his basic motor skills.
World Help is committed to helping children in our sponsorship program get the medical care they need and deserve, especially in emergency situations like those above. The unexpected can become a financial nightmare for our ministry partners. In honor of Dorothy and Bola, World Help has started a Medical Emergency Fund.
When you add $5 per month to your sponsorship gift or provide a one–time gift, you can contribute to the Medical Emergency Fund. This fund provides emergency hospital care, surgeries, and other special medical treatments for the children in our sponsorship program.
