For millions of children around the world Christmas is just another day. It is another day consumed by poverty, hunger, and thirst. It is another day without their parents who were taken from them through disease, violence, and famine.
That is why we began our Christmas for an Orphan project. We fill boxes for individual children, specifically for a boy or girl, so that children in developing countries like Guatemala, Uganda, and Rwanda can experience a wonderful Christmas knowing that someone cares for them. They receive toys but they also receive items such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and pens and pencils for school. For us, these may not seem like exciting Christmas gifts, but to a child who may have never seen soap it is a luxury.
For the past two years Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia has made Christmas for an Orphan a church-wide project. Each year they have provided us with over 2,000 boxes!
On Sunday night, the 22nd, all the boxes for this year were lined up and stacked in front of the stage at Thomas Road. Each box represented a real child who will be impacted by the their giving. But each box also represents the power we have to impact the world one life at a time. And Thomas Road is doing just that.
Not only did Thomas Road give these boxes, but they will also be handing them out to the very children they filled them fo
r. Two separate groups from the church will be going to Guatemala the beginning of next year. Each group will be working with orphans, caring for sick children, and delivering food and other essentials to remote villages. And they will be delivering the Christmas for an Orphan boxes to children who will be filled with absolute joy.
On Sunday night our Children of the World Choir performed and I was invited to speak. Thank you TRBC for the incredible impact you are making in the world.
Christmas was meant to change the world and you can help. If you would like to send a box you can find out how by clicking here.
